Allergy Care - Latex Allergy

It seems that like many other allergies, sensitivity to latex is on the increase. There are two types of allergic reactions. One to the latex protein, a natural component of rubber, and the other to the chemicals used in processing natural rubber products.

Latex allergy sufferers can be sensitive to a range of products containing latex. There is no cure for latex allergy so the only way to avoid symptoms is to limit exposure to products containing latex, eg balloons, rubber bands, rubber gloves etc.

Symptoms can include an itchy rash, itchy eyes, sneezing or a runny nose or more severe symptoms can lead to an anaphylactic shock.

Anyone can develop an allergy to latex but it is more commonly found in people who are exposed to latex on a regular basis.
