Historically, the advice has been that during the non-hay fever period ‘grassy’ and/or floral oils should be used in the bath to increase tolerance. Geranium and Lavender are good choices. During attacks, use Chamomile in the bath regularly, as many believe that it acts to calm the reaction in a similar way to anti-histamine. A bath is better than a shower because showers have a stimulant effect on the body and mind by the water manipulating or pricking all the nerves in the skin into an alert state, which has a knock on effect on the mind. If you have hay fever, your body is already in a state of high alert - a bath with still, warm water actually soothes all the nerve endings.
You can also use the other methods of enjoying the oils, i.e. a burner, massage or simple inhalation.
