The Family Doctor Guide to Allergies and Hay Fever is a handy, pocket sized guide. It covers six different chapters from What Is an Allergy? through Hay Fever, Asthma, Peanut and Other Allergies to Wasp and Bee Stings. Each chapter is split into sections which explain what the individual allergy is, what the symptoms are, how it is diagnosed and treated and what sufferers can do to help themselves.
The book is clearly written in straightforward language and helps make sense of what can be a baffling area to understand. It uses short paragraphs with clear, colourful diagrams to illustrate the points that are being made. Each chapter finishes with a useful “Key Points” box which summarises the main facts in that chapter. It was very easy to follow and the index quickly directs you to the right section if you are just looking for particular information.
I think it would be invaluable to somebody who had recently been diagnosed with an allergy as it would give all the information you might need without having to plough through too many complex medical facts.
These Dorling Kindersley/BMA Family Doctor Guides are very useful books and I am glad to see that they have a wide selection already available that cover many different health issues.
